Is it a red flag that my boyfriend wants his mother involved with furnishing our house? (by Sparky)
Is it a red flag that my boyfriend wants his mother involved with furnishing our house?
This might sounds as something absolutely minor but my(22F) boyfriend(29M) and I are moving in together in a house my parents own after being together for 8 months. I?ve lived there by myself for a while now and even though it?s not completely finished he is moving in with some of his furniture. Now his house is what I?d describe as the typical single male household and he prides his mother for helping him make his house a home which I actually always thought was very sweet. Now I know that the relationship he has with his mother has been kind of strained since childhood and I?ve only seen her a handful of times (she seems very sweet!). But today he said he definitely wants his mother to have a say in the way our house is going to look. I don?t want him to feel like it isn?t going to be ?our? house and like I don?t want his input but I also don?t want someone I barely know to tell me how I should make my house my home. Am I stressing over something minor or could this be a red flag for in the future?
TL;DR: My boyfriend wants his mom to have a say in our home furnishings, am I being dramatic for saying no?
EDIT: I haven?t seen any other signs of him being a pushover around his mother or her having too much of a say in his life, he is very much has his own opinion. I also don?t think there is any ill intent involved. For the people immediately saying he is a mommy?s boy I haven?t seen any signs of that and I have been with a definite mommy?s boy before. That we?ve been together for 8 months is not an indication of how long we?ve known each other beforehand. I really think he just doesn?t care what the house is going to look like and think his mom has done it before so will do good again if he only asks.

No. There is nothing wrong with a man asking and wanting his mother's help and advice when it comes to things that involve his relationships and making those relationships a good and happy and lasting success.
