I (44F) called 911 because my daughter (13F) called hysterical from her father?s house and said he was hitting his fianc?.

She said they were fighting, and she heard the whole thing. The sound of someone being hit, broken glass, and then quiet except for loud stomping (him). She asked me to call 911 and said on the phone ?I?m worried she?s dead?. I told her to get her siblings out of the house and run, and I called 911.
They made it safely to a neighbors where I picked them up later. The police went to the house and the girlfriend said she wasn?t hit, that they just had a big fight. The police also interviewed the children.
The children have been with me since I picked them up. CPS went to their Dads house and also came here to speak to them and there is an open CPS investigation.
He has a horrible temper, and was emotionally abusive when we were married. The children were terrified and what they said to me later was, ?it?s kind of crazy that we thought our dad could kill someone, even if it didn?t happen it says a lot about his temper that we thought that.?
The kids are now avoiding speaking with him, and he AND his girlfriend are furious with ME that I called 911. They are acting like I jumped on the opportunity to humiliate them and overact, after ?all they have done for me?. My daughter (who is a really good level headed kid) was in tears and told me to call...of course I did.
They have been angry saying that if I really cared about her I would have followed up the next day to see how she was (not my business) and that I failed to act like an adult and verify what was going on in the house. They say I should have called HER or a grandparent who lives 20 mins away to see what was going on/ not the police.
I?m not sure I?m even asking for advice here, but maybe kind words to help me feel better about all of this. It?s really overwhelming. I?m pretty sure I absolutely did the right thing but I can not believe how they are behaving- as though I?m the one who was wrong when they terrified my kids to the point where they wanted the police called and they fled the house.
TL,DR: My daughter asked me to call 911 when she was at her father?s house because he was hitting his fianc?, he and the fianc? deny it and are furious.
