ELI5 Why once the US presidential election has been decide is there a huge period of time where the previous president is allowed to continue be in office making changes before Inauguration Day?
Here in Australia once an election is called the government is placed into ?caretaker? mode so previous governing party can make changes before the election is decided. It also means the day after the election the winner takes control Immediately. Why once the US presidential election has been decide is there a huge period of time where the previous president is allowed to continue be in office making changes before Inauguration Day?
