My (46f) husband (48m) almost cheated on me and I don't know what to do.

Tl;dr We have been together for 28 years and married for 24. We have 3 kids (23f , 19m and 15f) . This is the first time that something like this happened.
We met when we were in college , we are each other first kiss, relationship and sex partner. We got married after we graduated .
He travels away for work around 4-6 months out of a year . This has never been a problem and I really think the distance made our relationship better as we never got tired of each other. He came back yesterday from a business trip and I saw something different in him. I asked him what happened and then he starts crying saying that he has done something terribly. On the last day of the trip he went with his coworkers to a bar . He met a woman there and started to talk to her. He said that he had little too much drink and started to flirt with her . She was drunk too and invited him to her hotel room ( she was a tourist in that city) . He agreed to go with her. On the way to her room he realized what he was doing and left her . He said he didn't do anything with her and I belive him ( he is one of the worst liars I know and after 28 years I know when he lies) .
I asked him why would he want to have sex with someone . He started apologising saying he feels like a piece of **** as he had everything he needed home . Our sex life has remained the same for our entire relationship ( we have sex around 4-5 times a week) . Our sex life has always been good as we have always tried to eat healthy and keep in shape by working out regularly. He has always been a very good husband and father and he is a good person , but even good people can make mistakes sometimes and I want to forgive him.
I need an advice as this is the first time something like this happened and I have no experience when it comes to this kind of things.
