My bleeding heart (by meekyj4eva)

My hearts bleed for the women in africa. Their sufferings are untold. A natural blessing turns curse and their life long wishes a possible death spell upon themselves.

From a tender age their lives looks bleak strapped to their mother's back. Food, love, tenderness and the very emotional support of maternal care is questionable. Bad treatment because she won't be the family's name bearer, or won't attain certain societal position is a rude awakening from day one.

Growing up with a high possibility of sexual molestation or even rape without any form of complaint, resistance or justice is more eminent than the very air we breath. With little or no education they are passed onto the world as maids, home attendants or petty traders, sent to the streets to hawk items to earn their daily living.

Its at this stage they are more vulnerable reaching their early puberty, force into sex slaves by so called guardians. Some unlucky ones ends off as permanent prostitutes, used for money rituals, or a fourth wife in a rich chief's home just to pay off her family's debt.

Paradoxically, with all this bitter ordeal they'll still wish for a prince charming and a happy ever life. This she would realize is just a mirage, as the husband would see traits of her past and use it against her, cheating, returning home drunk, lacking marital relatives family support and care.

Through all this she has to endure with him and still be expected to have as many issues as the man desires, to clean up the home like a maid, make sure food is ready on their request and maintain the kids with a humble slave like attitude, else the in laws will call her extravagant, untidy, local and a witch.

All her dreams remain so, and the only hope of fulfillment will be in here offspring whom the economy or the family will make no provision for.

Furthermore, after so many years of toiling, a thank you or God bless you is never received. A more modern woman will replace her who has a job and if lucky will still retain the name of a wife if she did not protest in any form after all these years of maltreatment. And in an event the man dies, she will be mock, assets taken away left at the mercy of family relatives to be named a witch till the end.

My heart bleeds for the african woman. I pray God Almighty grants them peace and give them the desires of their heart. Amen.

WOW this is so vivid and powerful! It's like a story almost. My ex wrote verse and was also VERY passionate about this subject - wrote very similar poems and I always enjoyed reading them, and discussing their depth. I just love it. Thank you for sharing. Keep them coming, please. :)

So sad and yet so true...however sometimes the plight of many a woman... Many a tear they cry, yet still they smile. We see them in faces we pass everyday, yet seldom a thought give we of the remarkable journey, the humble existence of a true WOMAN! God Bless all women and grant them strength. Thanks for sharing.
