What was the glaringly obvious sign(s) that the person you were ''dating'' was a ****boy/girl?

working definition of ''****boy'' for the purposes of this thread: person who encourages the other party to believe that a relationship is on offer/that it is official, so that they can keep the benefits of said relationship (usually sex) flowing. usually remains ambiguous, wistfully says they don't know what they want or are lost in life, etc. usually involves some degree of willfull deception, which works on those willing to deceive themselves.
so, how did you manage to deceive yourself, looking back? how would you tell other people how to spot them?
