Me [30M] with my spouse [32M] of 11 years and my family [60s/70s F/M] of thirty years. How can I deal with harassment? Police won't help, but I'm concerned a PI is following me.
I went no contact with my family a year ago, and they have been harassing and stalking me as well as friends ever since. I had been low contact for my adulthood, but went no contact once I felt I was emotionally ready to. It was a good choice.
I received a voicemail from them, I'm unsure how they got my number and changed it at once, where they said they knew where I lived and were stalking me. I don't want to go into more detail than that. They have the location wrong, it's actually my spouse's brother's house in another state. Nonetheless, it is concerning.
The police said nothing can be done until they say they are in route, or explicitly say we're coming to kill you, or the like. I'm still worried though. What can I do to handle this? I sent the voicemail, I recorded it, to my brother-in-law, so that he can go to the police if needed. Beyond that, what do? Also, how can I protect myself from a PI?
I would like to add that these people are violent with a lot of resources. I don't know if this harassment will ever stop. Due to the nature of my job, my contact information cannot be given out. Thus, I am keeping my new phone number for me, my spouse, and work. Is there anything else I can do? I already lack an online presence. Where I work isn't secure, but there are police nearby who would come if I needed assistance.
Has anyone gone through this?
I should note I have already been in contact with a lawyer, and due to the nature of this being across many states, restraining orders are extremely difficult to get and maintain. until I'm in the hospital Hence, the Dating.mobi post.
