Do you think someone can be emotionally abusive without realizing?

Is it as bad as doing it on purpose? Does it always mean they're not a good person/don't love the person they're abusing? Why (not)?
What even is a good person anyway?

My ex husband was emotionally, mentally, and physically abusive, but mention it to him and he thinks you're crazy.
