What do you talk to your extended family about? I find it pretty hard to relate to them most of the time...

We seem to have completely different lifestyles. I went to a family reunion and tried to shoot the **** with some people and it was like talking to a brick wall. How do you break down these kinds of barriers? What kind of things do you talk to your family about...if anything?

I talk to them about random stuff. We have gotten closer since my mom passed, ironically. I wouldn't say I call them unless the news is big. Breaking down barriers is all about being open to people's opinions, lifestyles, goals etc. "How have your been?" usually will suffice in my family, but I'm not really all that talkative. Usually it's the "grown folks" who do all the carrying on and the young ones branch off into their comfort zones...idk

My extended family (grandparents, aunt's, uncle's, etc...) have all died. My dad has passed and he was the last of his brothers and sisters, and my mom is the last of hers
And like sweets said, all the younger ones have drifted away for whatever reason.
Just me and my mom, and two brothers and sister and their handful of kids now.
When I was a kid, we'd have these huge reunions with hundreds of people there....the good ol days
