Forum Behavior? (by alynn)

I know this topic has been talked about quite a few times before, but...people seriously need to chill out in these forums. Someone posts a thread that you just don't like, find boring or it's on a topic that has already been discussed, and you chew them up. If the thread doesn't interest you or you don't know how to reply in a more proper way, just don't say anything. People shouldn't have to feel intimidated about posting something. This is especially for the newcomers who may not have read the forums before. They come and post something about dating or whatever, and because it's a bit redundant, they get told to shut up, get lost or talk about something else. And these 'regulars' at the forums, should stop trying to be mods unless Andres appoints you as one. Looks to me like he's doing a fine job at the moment. Just my opinion, I have nothing against anyone here.

Please report such posts so I can give infractions where warranted. Reporting is completely anonymous as only I see who has reported a post. I don't read most of the threads in the Forums, so reporting posts helps bring to my attention posts I most likely haven't read.

I've also gone ahead and added a new rule to the Forums: Be welcoming to new users.

The last thing I want is for new users to be turned away from the Forums as that would be completely counter-productive to the purpose of the Forums.

I personally think that threads with this content should be against the rules, simply because it has been discussed 80 times and Andres has said time after time after time what he wants done if u see someone being disrespectful, so a newcomer will only see thread after thread after thread of people complaining abt the same thing. jmo

From what alynn is saying, though, it seems like it's still happening, yet I know it's not being reported, so now I've made it a rule to be welcoming to new users to help get unwelcoming behavior reported more often. If users can't be welcoming to new users, then they should refrain from posting to that user. And as long as that continues to happen and go unreported, other users will continue to complain (rightly so) about the same thing. I cannot be in two different parts of the site at the same time, which means it is not possible for me to read every thread, so the only way we'll put an end to any unwelcoming behavior is if it actually gets reported.

For the Forums to continue to blossom, new blood needs to continually join in with the old blood. That requires a fine balance between welcoming newbies without tiring the more veteran users. We need a healthy mix of both types of users, and that's not an easy balance to strike, so it requires some course-correction along the way.

I, personally, have noticed that its not nearly as bad as it used to be. Will it ever be perfect? Of course not. One thing that I've done is try to think before I post. Put yourself in that new persons shoes and ask if YOU wud want to be treated rudely. And also remember that inflection is hard to read sometimes. Kill 'em with kindness people lol

@mrramtastic I thought everything had calmed down myself, people are still gonna disagree, but that doesnt make them rude or disrespectful. I havent noticed a down right street fight since the new sheriff came to town, tho i have seen comments tht wasnt required and Andres took care of that real quick. :)

Very glad to hear that things have gotten better! :) Let's continue that trend.

I personally don't mind an user to begin a thread that has already been posted, but what I don't like seeing is the same user posting the same question or comment in two different threads at the same time. Such as posting "Who wants Text Me" in a general thread then post it again in the age threads. Once should be enough.

I absolutely agree, and we already have a specific rule against duplicate posting, so please make sure to always report the duplicate so I can get rid of it and then give the user an infraction while I'm at it.
