The Confederate flag IS NOT a symbol of slavery and racism. It is a symbol of people who stood up for their right to disagree with the government and try to become their own nation. Were there bigots in the South? You bet, still is today. But they're all over this nation in every size, shape, and RACE. People need to pay attention in history class and stop this pussification and race baiting of the greatest nation on Earth. Can you tell I just got a new soapbox? If there's anyone who's willing to debate this in a civil manner I'm all for open and honest dialog.

The Confederate flag IS NOT a symbol of
slavery and racism.
It IS a flag flown by a group of states who SUPPORTED slavery though......and who believed Africans were inferior beings. For example....Jefferson Davis had this to say about Africans...i.e., slaves:

"" "African slavery, as it exists in the United
States, is a moral, a social, and a political
blessing."
~Davis""

"" "My own convictions as to negro slavery are
strong. It has its evils and abuses...We
recognize the negro as God and God's Book
and God's Laws, in nature, tell us to recognize
him - our inferior, fitted expressly for
servitude...You cannot transform the negro
into anything one-tenth as useful or as good
as what slavery enables them to be."
~Davis""

And, lets look at why the state in the news lately, the state who is still flying that flag, seceeded from the Union.....in that states own words.

""...... A
geographical line has been drawn across the
Union, and all the States north of that line
have united in the election of a man to the
high office of President of the United States,
whose opinions and purposes are hostile to
slavery. He is to be entrusted with the
administration of the common Government,
because he has declared that that
"Government cannot endure permanently
half slave, half free," and that the public
mind must rest in the belief that slavery is
in the course of ultimate extinction.""

This, and more seceeding states references to slavery being a cause for seccession can be found here.

To think that the Confederate Battle Flag doesnt have roots in slavery, and, therefore, racism, is disingenous at best.....and utterly dishonest at worst.

Not to offend anyone here, but, seriously who the f-ck cares. Its a flag and a part of history, it happened in the past nothing anyone can do to change our history but to learn from it. And in my personal opinion, its not really about the flag but rather gun control and to further divide us as a nation. Its stories like this one or some silly fruit loop cross dressing celebrity throwing on a dress and calling himself a woman and some white nut job broad tanning herself and lies about her skin color for personal gain, all these stories do is distract us Americans from the more important issues this country faces and cause discord. All this non sense needs to stop making headlines, sure maybe one day on the story but leave it at that stop droning on and on about it and dividing us further.

but leave it at that
Shouldnt even be a one day story. A state, in THE UNITED STATES, has no business flying a flag representative of the Confederate States of America....since there is no such thing.....on state capitol grounds....and it shouldnt take a tragedy to bring it down. Put it in a museum, and move on.

And IDGAF if I offend anybody either.

@WalkSoftly:I agree with you there, not on state Capitol grounds but what about the folks that wish to fly it freely on their own property or on their trucks or are avid fans of the dukes, seems like no one had a problem with it then but I digress, don't strip it away completely and erase history all together and take away ppls freedom to choose to fly it if they so choose to cos seems to me that's what they want to do. Not on state Capitol grounds but leave ppls freedoms alone, js. Cos that's what makes this country great right? Freedom & freedom of choice.

No one is telling them they cant. Even the gov of SC said it would be flown on grounds that are used for Confederate memorials.....and I have zero issues with that. Like you, Im tired of hearing about it.....from the far left wing loons calling for it to be banned forever, to the far right wing loons who say its just "heritage".
It aint rocket science to me.

If I'm not mistaken, the white boy killing a bunch of black churchgoers is what set off the banning of the confederate flag because they have a pic of him burning it? There is also a pic of him burning the American flag...either way, it's senseless to ban a flag because it offends people. What about all the Muslims who are offended by the American flag...why is it ok to put up election signs or advertise sexual products..or even meat for that matter, how many vegans are offended by the Burger King signs? Ugh...this is not where freedom rings..that's for damn sure. Next flag to go will be the rainbow flag that represents the lgbt community...that should have been brought up long before the confederate flag, but it's not a black and white issue so it was overlooked this time I guess...
