Depression plans (by james85)

What do you think of plans to force depressed people to receive medical treatment - take pills or therapy if available - or lose their benefit handout. More than quarter of a million claimants could be affected. Three quarters of those diagnosed as depressed receive no treatment. Is it right to force them to take drugs or go into therapy?

I'm not being funny but if someone has a problem
Then they should try and sort it out, not just sit there.
If they aren't willing to help themselfs why should other people help them?
If their on benefits due to "illness" then they should be seeking professional help to overcome the illness and to show that they are trying to help themselfs.
I hate it when people sit round saying "I have a problem", well go sort it out don't just sit there and expect others to help or expect a free ride.

I didn't know people received handouts for being depressed. Seriously, I been depressed before and I still got my ass up and went to work WITH chronic medical issues. So, people need to stop ****ing whining about their problems and get their **** together. No taxpayer wants to support someone because they're SAD, take some Zoloft and go to work. To the original question, I don't know becaused I got p*ssed off. Hahahaha. (Aunt Flo makes me blunt) :)

@Notlikeothers: I agree 100 percent man. well here in my state of New York a individual can qualify for Social Security disability benefits if you are depressed, really? And probably funded by the taxpayers. this free ride society and especially in my state has to come to an end or at least reformed in some way. if you are not willing to help yourself then why should others. I had depression issues a few yrs back for a while and I stepped up and took care of my issues on my own. Here in my state one can qualify for such benefits and and while at the same time also be on welfare food stamps and other multiple assistance programs at the same time while never working a day in their life and never paying into the system a day in their life, but yet those are the ones that always get the cost of living wage increases in their benefits but yet a person on unemployment in this state gets their benefits cut after a few months and keeps getting cut every week ur on it but they can get increases in their benefits every time you turn around and they never work, I've seen many cases that were like this and they are 3rd & 4th generation welfare and also on multiple assistance programs including the SSDI program which is available for depressed individuals. These programs need to be cut like the unemployment insurance is or at least reformed in some way does free ride Society has to stop. why is working discouraged and sitting around being lazy doing nothing encouraged?

Medical intervention shldnt be forced on anyone unless they present a threat to themselves or others. Sadly, common sense has been replaced by the "opinions" of "mental health experts" who throw out the diagnosis of "depression" way too often.....and, IMO, just to bolster their professions growth.....and to increase the sale of certain medications Every single sad thought you have becomes an illness.....their solution? Take a pill. Guess what? In life, sh!t happens.....youre gonna be sad at some point, deal with it with your own money, not mine.

why is working
discouraged and sitting around being lazy
doing nothing encouraged?
Its a symptom of the "big govt" mindset. The govt can take care of all your needs.....except that it isnt govts money doing it, its taxpayers money. Oh....and it gets the "dumb people" vote.
