Is nine too young to learn about sexting? (by james85)

Is nine too young to be taught about the dangers of sexting? The National Curriculum here in the u.k covers some basic sex education, such as puberty and reproduction, but many schools don’t even follow that. At age 13, 60% of kids are already sexting so it makes sense to teach them early. But campaigners argue that teaching about sexting at nine will make kids worry unnecessarily - what do you say?

@james85: nowadays....children grow fast....most of them are very smart...over here...a 9 years old girl could look 13 or 15...i know of a 9 years old girl who has started monthly cycle....so telling them about it at the age of 9...aint bad at all....a 9 years old girl who has everything can start thinking of having a bf....so when they learn about all these at 9,they would be able to deal with it

Yeah that's way too young to be teaching them about sexting and that's even too young to even have a cell phone at that age. Imo they shouldn't even need a cellphone until they are like 15, 16 when they can get a job and pay for the bill themselves. And sex is being taught way too young, here in my state its taught in the 5th grade some schools even earlier, teach them when they are more mature about what they are learning, like 7th grade the basics and 10th grade the full course. As for the cellphones you give them one at that young of an age then ur asking for problems, if they really need a cellphone for safety reasons at a young age well then get them a cheap tracphone that has only texting and calling them kinda phones u can't take or send pics with why should they need anything more than that

Can I get an amen!!
Kids should be kids. They should learn things when their older, and as for a phone, well my son ain't getting one till he is at least 15.
Kids are growin up so fast but is it because we're pushing them to grow up faster?

u're right. That reminds me of a frnd in high school. She told me she started her monthly circle @ d age of nine, while i haven't started growing breast @ that age. And if a girl of 13 can give birth bcos I've seen that too then y can't we educate our children @ that tender age?

My parent never have such discussion with us but i learnt mine in school especially during biology class and whenever i tell them @ home my mum is always like 'u girls are been spoilt in school'. I know what they never imagine i could know but i never practice any of it until few years after my high school

My first reaction was yes to young but with all the social media that is out there these days you have to get the msg through that there are a lot of creeps out there so i think teach them the dangers as soon as they start using phones internet etc

That Is not too young. I've seen kids that age get into trouble over that. Better they be aware early
