@Andres Does noone look at the profile pics b4 they are displayed? I woke up to 2 "man organs" this morning and its quiet disturbing since this is a no nudity site, how can u gaurantee no nudity if noone looks at the pic? I can have a profile pic completely naked and nothing will be said? Some people dont care about being verified, some men even send end their "manhood" pics as their verification pic, ive seen it, but atleast its not THEIR PROFILE PIC. Is there anything that can be done about this? thanks

Probably the same one i reported last night i agree.

We do not allow ANY nudity. However, we do not pre-screen profile pics, so we rely on our users to report the nude pics so we can take swift action. Unfortunately, that means that sometimes a few nude pics might slip through and be seen by a handful of people before we are notified and get rid of them.

The reason we do not pre-screen profile pics is two-fold:

1) It's only Aleksandra and I running the site, so between Verifying Pics, answering member e-mails, fixing the bugs in the code, adding new features, and everything else we do around here to keep this place up and running, we simply do not have the time to pre-screen every single profile pic that gets uploaded.

and,

2) Whenever we do anything that does not allow a member to have instant access to the site, such as making them wait until we pre-screen their profile pic, our users get upset and we get yelled at. This already happens with the Verified Pics, but we can only imagine what the reactions would be from the 99%+ of users who upload pics with no nudity if we had to pre-screen their profile pic every time they uploaded it.


So we felt the best balance was to rely on the community to report any nude pics so we could take swift action. For example, we've already taken action on all the ones that have been reported so far.

If you guys have any suggestions on how we can improve this process, please let us know. Perhaps a crowd-sourced solution like we currently do with the Verified Pics could be one solution, but you would have to keep in mind that everyone's profile pic would then need to get approved by the community every time it got uploaded or changed, and that could upset a lot of users.

Let me know your thoughts.

@ andres- just a possible solution why not allow several (say 20-30) level-headed ppl like briteeyes do the pre screening for u if its not fast enough get more help. Id b willing to help with that as this is the best site i found and id really hate to see ur users leave just cuz of the nudity that not supposed to b he. Come up with a way that once users has a bf/gf and want to continue to use the site have a photo exchange that works on the same basis as the chat... U have to agree to it first... That way everyone is happy. Just a thought.

@andes I agree with masteroftheunknown....i also understand it would take alot of time to verify every single pic, i think maybe u could ask for volunteers, atleast give it a try. Maybe u could offer an extra rose for every 25 or 50 pics they verify, something like that. Im on here everyday multiple times a day, i ofcourse report nude pics simply cuz it disrespects me, but if i could do anything to help make the site better, id be happy to help.

Tho i guess the question is how do pick the volunteers and not some creepy f**k just lookin for an exuse to get his/her rocks off. I mean with some ppl it would b obvious. Look at briteeyes its clear that she has a level head. But personally if i had to choose between the options id go with my second. The photo exchange or hell y not both would get nude pics off profiles and the photo exchange done as i suggested would safeguard users like briteeyes( sorry hun dont mean to keep singling u out)but would also give individuals oppurtunity to show their stuff to those who want to see it

The problem I see with this solution is if, for whatever reason, no volunteers happen to be online at a specific moment, then no new users will be getting their profile pic approved until one of the volunteers gets online, and that could create a really bad impression and frustrating experience for those new users.

That's the problem I have with any solution that does not give new users an instant and immediate ability to fully create their profile and use the site without any hurdles. Remember, we already make them wait to get their pics verified, but at least that is optional in most cases. Forcing every single user on the site, especially new users, to have to wait until their pics get moderated, could quickly result in them losing interest and leaving the site for good before they even had a chance to have their pic approved and make full use of the site.

The point is, I do not want to annoy new users in any way or we risk them leaving and never coming back. Let's not forget, the vast majority of users follow the rules, so subjecting them to a frustrating process in order to deal with the small minority of users who violate the rules is -- I think -- punishing everyone for the crimes of a few.

Remember, growing without advertising is hard enough as it is, so we really need to make the experience of new users as simple, pleasant, and straightforward as possible to give them a great first impression so that they stick around. All sites follow this basic principle because new user retainment is difficult as it is without adding extra hurdles.

Facebook, with almost 1 billion users and the same no-nudity policy as us, doesn't force new users to get their pic approved before displaying it, and there are kids using that site (unlike here). But they do remove nude pics as soon as they are reported.

So where I think we can greatly improve is in the TIME it takes for us to react to a reported nude pic, because the longer a nude pic is on the site, the greater the number of people that will be exposed to it. So I want to look at a solution that won't hold back new users while still getting rid of nude pics as soon as possible so that the fewest number of people are exposed to it.

Keeping that in mind, here's what I'm thinking: the current "report nude pics" feature is cumbersome. A user has to go to the user's profile, click on the "Report User" link which takes them to another page, select "Nude Pic" in the drop-down menu, is then forced to write an explanation for why they are reporting that user, has to click submit, and then has to wait until either Aleksandra or I see it before the nude pic is removed. Let's be honest, most user's couldn't be bothered to go through all those steps (especially when Dumping a user is so much easier), which is why we actually receive few reports of Nude Pics even when many have seen it.

So if we can make the reporting of nude pics not only really easy, but then automate their removal, then we can create a system that eliminates nude pics from the site very quickly and efficiently without annoying new users.

SOLUTION:

How do we do that? Simple, first we add a special "Report Nude Pic" to every user's profile and message they send so that reporting a nude pic is as simple as clicking ONE button. This will immediately result in a lot more users reporting nude pics. Second, we automate the removal of nude pics such that when a user has received -- say -- 3 nude pic complaints, the system automatically removes their profile pic and sends them a stern warning that if they do it again, they will be banned from the site.

So imagine a new user adds a nude pic, and then messages 10 people or 10 people see the nude pic in the "Online Now" page. We would just need 3 of those 10 people to click on that one "Report Nude Pic" link to get the pic removed. That could take as little as a few minutes, which would greatly reduce the number of users exposed to any nude pics.

What do you guys think of that solution?
