ok so why is it socially acceptable for a man to be expected to work n support while the woman stays home n tends things, but not the other way around?? We can work, and men can be decent parents, but alotta ppl think a guy at home is lazy, why is this?

and this is talking about the guys that _actually- keep the house and kid(s) clean n happy. The ones who dont do that or work are kinda lazy :p

Have no social reply to that. But yeah, there are some good guys that are stay at home dads. I am a single father, and I personally love to spend time with my daughter. But would drive everyone crazy if I could not work!

Women are still working their way into the workforce. i read a study a few years back saying, on average, a male makes more money than a female at any particular job. either way, social standards dont matter

From the dawn of time MAN brought home the goods, women stayed out and tended the home, children ect.. This is the way it has ALWAYS been. Though time has changed it is still embedded in some of our heads that, that is the right way! I do not believe a man should EVER be a stay at home father, both parents should work or the mother should stay home. I dont think a man who stays home is lazy, I think a man who stays home isn't doing his duties. Only a personal opinion. Im slightly still old fashioned though

@hillbilly1962: you're probably one of the good ones then. You see my point about it though? Im not trying to insult anyone, but iv never had a satisfactory answer to that question and im curious.

From a religious and/or evolutionary perspective it makes sense for the man to work and the woman to tend the house. So socially we see that as acceptable and the way things should be, but when roles are switched people jump to conclusions cause it goes against their instincts

I don't think that there is one to be honest. Just the way that it has been formatted into our socity. Women are getting better rites, but us guys ( that r running this mixed up world), have a hard time relienguishing the power. Must be a testosterone thing.

The programing of stereotypes is a long tradition until it ends the stereotyping of male and female social roles will continue

hilariously stereotypes are not always wrong. Ex. I know alotta black ppl that like fried chicken and watermelons xD thhen again i like them too lol. I kinda see yalls points (and april thas old school, not just a lil, but if it works 4 u..) But the human evolutionary cycle is still running and changing and..well evolving. And yet ppl in general are no where near as survivable as we were in cave man times. We are'nt evolving to be stronger or faster, or even more aware. Nor is joe average becoming more intelligent as time goes by. Does anyone else think that technology is kinda weakening humans? Think about it like this, say a mammal needs to be able to jump really high to reach something vital to its survival. It evolves jmping capability over generations and then all members of that species can super jump. Average person needs to do the same, they just bust out a crane/ladder. So if we are no longer evolving to be better then what are our genes doing? (randomm question i had to ask)
