Celebrating Martin Luther King's Day! :) (by JustMeAndYou77)
Hey everybody! Today is Martin Luther King's Day. So in acknowledging the contributions he made to America during the civil rights movement, can you name and discuss one thing you like, cherish, or find beneficial to this man or this day? Sorry to burst bubbles but it's not going to be a racial platform to vent hate as he was for civil rights of all races and people :) It's pretty obvious that he's black and therefore wanted equality for black people also. Let's expand on the positive things you think he's contributed to where America is now. Thanks!
Well Im thankful that I can eat in the same restaurant, at the same table with my family:)I have three grandkids who are of mixed race& a son in law whom I love that is black. Im also grateful that my physically disabled friend has more access to the world, therefore giving her more opportunity to live a normal life:) hmmmm.. .I could go on..anyone else?
his i had a dream speach still "moves" me to this day since i first saw it played for me in 6th grade.
This is exactly the responses I was hoping for, especially rights for the disabled/disabled vets you also pointed out. Thank you so much girl and Im glad that you are proof that it has and can be done. Imagine America without having a civil rights movement. Most people would be in trouble along with the black folks lmao
omg, there are certain things he's said in that speech that I can actually see has happened without us really working at it. Cause, to be honest, we havent been working at it real hard lol In any case, he was definitely an indepth visionary on the human rights condition in America.
@JustMeAndYou77: there are other areas that the civil rights movement impacted also. How about lesbian and gay rights, or senior citizens& college students...civil rights were created for humankind not just for people of color:)
You're absolutely right and these are the kinds of things I held deep in my thoughts while observing the Martin Luther King holiday. It's a blessing that one man was able to get the process rolling for so many others! May he and his wife Coretta rest in peace.
