Pitbulls are great, lovable dogs! When I was an EMT, I saw the results of what a very sweet, loyal Pit did to a 14 month baby girl, tore her face completly off, all that was left of her face was the skull portion! Of course the Baby bled to death before we arrived even though our response time was only 8 minutes! The Baby's Grandmother was in the same room when it happened, but couldnt pull the sweet animal off of the child! Naturally the loyal, gentle pet had to be put down! I wish every one that loves pits could have seen what was left of that child, and could have heard the mothers screams, when she was told of what happened! Yep! That is one lovable breed of dog!

@Hawkeye: That is the exception rather than the rule. Though, when raised wrong it does become more on the rule side. But to play devils advocate ANY breed can turn under the right circumstances. I was bit in the face (when I was 2) by a German Shepard. And they are notorious for loyalty and sweetness. It's a dog by dog issue, NOT a breed issue.

@IrishLove1988: If you look at statistics, it is a breed problem! According to Wikipedia, A study done by the US CDC, shows that in 2011 there were 15 fatal dog attacks in the US! 12 were from Pit Bulls, and 3 by other breeds! This year there were 18 fatal attacks! 12 from Pit bulls! So is it a problem with the breed or individual dog? The statistics speak for themselves! But what ever arguments can be made that Pits are a good breed to have, especially around kids, I know this! I STILL think about that missing little girls face and the horrible screams the mother made when she rushed home from work and was told her little baby had been killed! Those thoughts will haunt my dreams FOREVER!

@Hawkeye: It is true that stats show pitts are a dangerous breed. But, think about this for a minute. Pitts are known as an aggressive breed, right? So the bad as* types who want a dog who will be fierce (and fight) go for pitts. It's a self perpetuating cycle. Not to mention the fact that those stats don't tell you if the dog was previously bred for fighting, or what the circumstances of the attack were. I'm not trying to change your mind about pitts, as I know that once you see something like that it never goes away. I'm just trying to be fair. Stats also show that more commonly than not, men are responsible for more violent crimes. Does that mean all men are bad? No, it means that the men who do those things are bad. Just like stats show that there is a higher crime rate among african americans. Does that mean that all african americans are bad? No, it means that the ones who do bad things are bad. Also, it depends on where the study was done. Is there a higher population of pitts in the area? There are lots of things to consider. A soul (dog or otherwise) should not be judged by the actions of it's breed or ethnicity, but by the actions of the soul.

@IrishLove1988: Yeah, I guess those are fair assessments! I personally dont dislike any animal or breed of animal! But I do think about what it might have been like seeing an advocate for pit bull ownership trying to explain their side to the 2 parents and grandmother of the little girl that was killed!

@Hawkeye: It would have been a very tough arguement, I'll give you that. I'm a huge animal lover myself. I love all kinds of animals, even the creepy crawly kind (to an extent lol). I know it took me a looooong time to get over my fear of dogs after I was bitten. I just hate to see a whole sect of animals being hated on for the actions of a few bad seeds. And, I'm sorry that you had to see so many terrible things :(

@IrishLove1988: Thanks! In that line of work you see a lot of horrible things and you get hardened to it and try to forget most of them. But the little kids stick in your mind always!

@Hawkeye: I understand. I was a Preschool teacher in a rough neighborhood for a long time. You see things you wish you never knew existed. When it involves children it's the worst.
