Direct alerts when someone replies to your Forum post? (by IrishLove1988)

Hi Andres :) I was just thinking about the forum and had an idea. I've noticed on some other web forums, that if a person were to reply to or quote a post by a user, then that user would be directly notified. I thought maybe this would be a good addition to the site, instead of having to go back and check each subscribed thread, even if there is no posts for the individual user. Just a thought :)

Are you sure they send a notification when someone replies to or quotes your specific posts? I ask because I've worked with many different forums and I've never seen that feature. What they normally do is notify you if someone posts in a thread you've posted in, which is the equivalent of the "Subscribed" feature.

Can you give me an example of a Forum that does what you described so I can check how they do it?

@Andres: I'm not sure of the name of the site exactly, but it was a One Tree Hill web forum. When I signed into the forum, I would have a list of people who had replied or commented on my threads/posts. I'm sorry, I can't be more specific... This was a few years ago lol

It was most likely people who had commented in a thread of yours (which is what the "Subscribed" does here), but not directly to one of your posts. If you started the thread, then you're automatically subscribed to it (just like you are automatically subscribed to any other thread when you post in it). I can see how this could have given you the impression that you are getting notified for every reply to you in that thread (since you started it and the posts were probably directed at you), when in reality you were just getting the standard subscription notification since you were subscribed to your own thread.

All that said, I'll add this to the To-Do list and see if we can actually do what few Forums do and notify you of direct replies to any of your posts.

Thanks for the suggestion!

You're welcome. I just figured it would make the forums a bit easier to navigate. Especially the longer threads. It's such a pain to sort through a bunch of comments, when none of them are even for you lol. Thanks for listening :)
