Sexual harassment in messages (by James2112)

Several of my friends on here have mentioned that most of their messages are sexual and very graphic. They don't like it because they didn't invite it. Ik u are working on a solution to that Andres. But here's a suggestion maybe you could make an option to report those messages as sexual harassment. Idk but if they got warning about it maybe they'd stop or eventually get banned. Just a thought.

You can already report any user for "Harassment" (of any kind) by clicking the "Report User" link on their profile. We won't ban them for one offense, but if we get repeated reports about a user harassing several other users, we do take action and ban them as we don't want those kinds of people on Dating.mobi.

This requires manual work, however, and since it's just my girlfriend Aleksandra and I running the show, I'm working on a more automated solution to this problem (as you're aware).

@andres i dont know if you can do this but. I got three message yesterday morning. From someone you banned. Is there away to stop them from coming back on in a different name by the same number. Because he harrassed me as alan44400. I dumped him then. Then he came back as marcus88. He told me in a message who he was. I dumped him after the third message he said he was lesbo911. I really am considering deleting. Because its very upsetting to me. And i really like mobi. And their are some great people on here. Its stressing me out at having to dump the same person over and over again in a different name. All cause of my statements in sex and sexuality issues. Thanks for taking the time to listen.

This is a tough one because there is no sure-fire way to automatically stop someone from registering under a different username because they can easily come back under a different IP address, e-mail address, and other info so that in the eyes of the System, they are completely new and unique.

What I could do is make it a bit more difficult for them to register an account. I experimented with forcing all new users to Verify their Pic before being allowed to contact anyone, but -- as expected -- there was a big backlash against that because some new users didn't have a camera phone so they couldn't use the site immediately after registering, or others wanted to preserve their privacy and not upload a pic at all, etc, so we no longer force that in all cases. That said, I could force everyone to at least confirm their e-mail (something I don't force at the moment because it's sometimes a bit difficult to check your e-mail on your phone compared to your PC). I also tried that a few months ago and there was some backlash as well since some users claimed they didn't even use e-mail or have an e-mail address. However, that backlash was somewhat limited, so I could give that another try. Again, this won't keep a determined user from re-registering under a new account since they would just have to create a new fake e-mail address, but it would require an extra step and a greater effort on their part which would make them give up sooner.

The truth is, no site on the internet can completely prohibit a user from signing up under a new account. Not Facebook, not Google, not us, not anyone. Even if you went to the draconian step of requiring a retinal eye scan and fingerprints during registration, they could just get a friend to sign up for them and then use their new account. So the only thing we can do is make it more difficult for them. However, even then, we need to strike a very delicate balance because we don't want to make it so complicated that it will turn off legitimate new users from signing up. Growing without an advertising budget is tough enough as it is without having to annoy new users from the get-go, so we need to be very careful about what we force new users to do.

In the case of alan44400, marcus88, and lesbo911, I just banned all 3 accounts. He'll probably create a new account again, but if you keep reporting it, we'll keep banning him. It takes you about 10 seconds to report him, and about 30 seconds for us to ban him, yet it takes him several minutes to create each new account and harass other users, so we've got the upper hand and he'll eventually give up.

Alternatively, you can continue to Dump him as that literally takes 1 second. I know it's frustrating to have to keep Dumping the same user using different accounts, but it's 1 second vs. several minutes for him, so you'll win that one all on your own.

At any rate, I definitely don't want you to delete your account over this, so let's work together on finding a balanced solution to minimize this problem.
