My cats are full grown males. they had no problem with the the Rats my daughter talked me into breeding to feed her snake. that came to an end when I had 3 litters of 21 feeders and the 2 parents. :(her snake was only taking one a week:) I had a Bunny for a while but he soon chewed into a live wire. I've even babysat a few friends dogs for vacation and emergent needs. But this new Pup is [Warning: Posting of Contact Info is not allowed. Please follow the rules.]#'s. He's terribaly excited to meet his new pals but his paws are heavy and strong. I tried attaching his lead to the leg of the full size sofa sleeper, thinking the cats could move up to him as they seen fit. He drugged that couch some six feet without much effort. Now the cats are in hidding all over again :(in a seperate bedroom behind a closed door:). Oh help me please. I'll try anything so long as I don't see a threat of the Pup accidently breaking the Cats in half.

@Twoinchheels: the best idea i have and has worked time after time for me is a crate...all my dogs have been crate trained so i always have one around...reverse it and put the cats in the crate for a few days...ideally it is a open crate that can be seen through....cats cant run and dog cant get to them... Should only take a few says to a week tops two...if u dont have one u could buy ont then return it when the intragration is over. Hope this hekps. Good luck.

What a wonderfull idea. I'll check with friends and see what I can find as far as a crate is concerned. is there any possibily that the cats might get scared and harm each other. should I only put one in at a time? How long should the first sessions be. 5-8 mins?

ive had same problem introducing my now 2 year old dog as pup to my 3 cats try to keep it simple pup wants to play cats are frightened by the hyper pup try turnin pups attention to something more fun or treats when pup tries to play with kitties eventual pup will find kitty uninteresting and not chase em givin kitty opportunity to check pup out also wear pup out with play til it too tired to care and try to get kitties to take treats nearby be sure pup has own treat as well so not tempted to kitty treats it helps to have extra person one for pup other for kitties more encouragement absolutely no punishment that could cause problems crate training does still help along with these tips as well

Thank you. we tried a version of that. my friend is ripped up from scalp to waistband. it's not as funny watching a cat attack a mans hair and scalp in real life, as it is on a cartoon. lol.!

yep cats do that try further away and slowly move em closer if ya can get em in same room with no attacks its progress also try bringing toys close to cats so they can smell pup without seeing pup your cats will turn away if they are not comfortable

@Twoinchheels: in my experiance a lot longer would work better submersion is the idea..... Leave them till they sleep or eat and the pup is not interested anymore....sleeping and eating wont happen till they feel safe. That is the feelings u want to surface.... Then do it all over again.....if they are still huddled in the corner with the pup going crazy then neither of them reach the state of mind needed to create harmony...when u can put them in and the pup not go crazy and them not huddle in fear then it is time for the next step. Cat in arms and pup smelling and checking them out up close. If pup gets to excited then go back to where u were. In the past i have even went to far to leave big crate up put little box and food in there and put a hole in it big enough for cats...they can eat and poop without being bothered. Keeps dog out of litter box and they always have a place to go that feels safe....dont put hole in it till intergration is done for the most part. I have never failed to intregrate

@Twoinchheels: if the cats know one another they should just huddle in corner together....if u take them out too soon then the fear of the dog is still the last feeling they had in connection to them and that is not what we are aiming for. Of course not letting the dog just terrorize them and offering him distractions is a good idea. Such as training session with treats and such. If he is just sniffin real good let him be but if he is pawing at cage or anything like that distraction is good and the treats show him proper behavior around kitty. I hope all this helps.

I was going to message u and give u my number but dont meet ur contact restrictions... I am not on alot so if u want we can exchange numbes so u can call with any questions. I have worked with all kinds of animals all my life. I currently work in a doggie daycare...do u mind if i ask the breed i might be able to offer breed specific advice if i have experiance with that breed. Good luck and i hope u find success in this and your pup has found his forever home. A lot of animals get displace because of issuse like this and i like to help when i can. Not saying u would but a lot of people will just give up in ur situation and get rid of the dog. When with just a little help it could work. U seeking help is a good sign and i think u will find success and harmony.
