i was thinking more along the lines of giving someone negative karma if he or she bashes out about a person or thread discussion. Not just because he or she disagrees and has their own opinion. What if you give karma ona thread-positive or negative- and are required to put why you chose to do so. Then maybe, admin can look and approve or disapprove a negative or positve karma score to that individual.

You can hit " Report" button if the posters are rude and admin investigate that when he gets online ...

& oh I forget to add that it may cause DRAMA too when users are somewhat a dramatic actors / actresses when they knew you've given them negative karma ...

No matter what the reason behind the good or bad karma over a thread, it still does not seem like a good idea. One for the drama. Two for the fact that people would abuse it. Just because they say it is for a serious reason it could be for a childish one. And like was said already, if they are bashing you and being cruel, report them. Giving them bad karma doesn't fix them bashing you. Just like in real life, reactions give them the power to keep doing it. Giving a basher negative karma is like saying "Keep up the good work."

The karma system is to let other people know how you talk to someone else privately, not publicly!
