Our star, the Sun, or Sol (which is its actual name) has been hurtling through our galaxy in our universe for an even more ungodly amount of time. Even if the human race wipes itself out, the universe will remain, in some state of existence - forever. Doomsday? All religions preach the end is near. The book of Revelations in the Bible was simply resistance lierature against Rome and was written by John of Patmos to encourage persecuted early Christians and the Church. 2012 for the Mayans was simply where they stopped calculating their calendar because they had it figured out for thousands of years in to the future and didn't need to mess with it further. They just never got back around to adding to it before they took off in their stone temple spaceships for better parts.
