We will soon be requiring everyone to Confirm their E-mail Addresses (by Andres)

Hi Folks,

Just a quick note to let everyone know that we will soon be requiring everyone to confirm their e-mail addresses.

We've been very lax about the e-mail confirmations as we know it can be a hassle, especially on mobile phones, but it's starting to create problems for us. For one, users with multiple accounts are just entering fake e-mail accounts during registration. Also, the new E-mail Service Provider we use is very strict about compliance and penalizes us if we send too many e-mails to non-existent addresses, so we need to start doing what every other site does and require everyone to confirm their e-mail address.

Once this requirement is in place, your account will be in read-only mode until you confirm your e-mail address. Simple instructions will be provided to help you do that if you have not already done so and should take a minute to complete. If you have already confirmed your e-mail address, then this won't affect you at all.
This has just gone into effect.

To be fair, everyone was supposed to confirm their e-mail address within 24 hours of registering their account, we just never enforced it until now. :)

Yup, this should definitely help cut back on scammers, fake profiles, and multiple accounts. It won't completely eliminate them, but it adds yet another hurdle that will make them give up sooner.

@Andres: Btw, I even saw one in there using Aleksandra's sample verify pic, with a derogatory username, which I did report!
