I promised my mom I would kill my sister [Part 9]

This is Part 9 of this series. There are links to the previous parts at the bottom of this entry.

Hello everyone! Something really interesting has happened. Inside the Tulip Journal I found an entry that talks about a professor that mom and dad contacted to talk about the family ?history?. He teaches at a university about an hour from here. I called and left a message on his voicemail. Hopefully he has not gone home for the holidays. I looked him up online but didn?t find much. The journal doesn?t spell out what he told them, but it does refer back to him in several entries from the spring of 2015. I need to ask him to tell me exactly what he told them. And what they told him.
I also found out that my dad will be calling today or tomorrow. I have a lot of questions to ask him.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out reminding me to take care of myself. I did get a decent amount of sleep last night and Tulip has been quiet since the camera incident. We are doing some decorating today, which is something she loves. She hung mom and dad?s stocking on the fireplace. I?m not sure she fully understands that they aren?t coming back.
She?s also been asking me to fix her hair. She likes to wear ponytails. So this morning I found out that I am not good at ponytails. I try to make one, she goes into the bathroom, looks in the mirror and then pulls it out and throws the rubber band at me and laughs. She thinks it?s pretty funny that I can?t do it right. Her hair is only a little longer than her chin so it?s harder than it looks. I guess I should be glad that braiding hair is not a skill Marines have to know.
With everything that is going to happen, I?m glad to see her having some happy days. And she really loves Christmas.
One other big thing happened early this morning. I opened the lock box. The numbers dad gave me didn?t work. I tried them in a bunch of configurations but nothing opened. Well, it didn?t open until I tried a hammer and screwdriver instead. [Sorry dad]. Inside the metal lockbox was a thin wooden box about 12 inches long and 3 inches tall. There wasn?t anything on the outside of it but it looked old. Inside the box was a broken dagger and a piece of paper folded into a square. The paper also looked pretty old. It was starting to tear in the creases where it was folded.
At the top it says
Scindo de geminos
Underneath that was more writing in whatever language that is. Maybe the professor will know what it means. If I don?t hear from him soon I?ll call the secretary of his department and find out where he is. Maybe there is a way to do something. What does it do? Were my parents going to use it? Why did my dad give me fake numbers?
There were four other documents in the hidden spot by the attic window. The first one was my father?s birth certificate. The second was a matching birth certificate with the same date as my father but no name listed. The third one was a death certificate for Baby [last name]. It was dated the same day. The final one was a death certificate for Hazel [last name]. It was dated the same day as all the other documents.
Here?s the thing. My grandmother?s name wasn?t Hazel. It was Virginia. Hazel isn?t listed in the family tree. This has to have been dad?s real mother. Does that mean my grandfather knew that Hazel would die when he married her? He has to have, right?
Why didn?t my parents tell me any of this? Did they honestly think I?d never need to know? I just feel kind of ****** off, particularly with my dad. All I know is that I have a lot of questions and he better give me answers, phone call recorder be damned.
Right now, I need to get back to watching Tulip. I can see her from where I?m sitting, but I don?t want to take any more chances than I have to. I can?t imagine what she?s thinking with me being here and our parents being gone. I?m not sure it has fully registered. Or maybe she thinks they?re coming back.
She?s wrapping presents. [Don?t worry, she uses plastic scissors.] I know exactly what she?s getting me. She gets me the same thing every year. An apple and a drawing of the two of us. I have no idea why she has always given us apples. But it?s my favorite gift every year. When I was deployed she sent an apple picture, usually torn out of a magazine or printed off the computer. I?m sure she argued with mom about it. Every year. And it?s hard to argue with Tulip because she doesn?t talk. That doesn?t mean she fails to get the message across. I wonder if she will wrap one or three.
Anyway, I just wanted to pop on here and give you an update. I?m going to call the professor again in a few minutes and I hope to hear from my dad soon. I have so many questions. Why didn?t he ever mention his real mom? Where is the dagger from? What does the writing on the paper mean? What did the professor tell him?
What does he know about the curse?
He is going to tell me the truth, it?s the least he can do.
