I'm a single mum to one boy who is nearly 7. he is lying constantly and has been for months now. its about things that are pointless too. he lies about what he does at school, what dreams he has. its now at the point where i don't know if everything he says is a lie. its so frustrating because he is a good boy and is doing well at school. but he knows i can't stand lying yet since does it everyday. I've tried talking it through with him, telling him the story of the boy who cried wolf. stopped his pocket money. Sent him to bed early. given him chores yet he still does it. i know all children must go through this stage and was just wondering if anyone had any ideas that may help me. I'd really appreciate it :)

When did you first noticed that he lied ?What was it all about ? Did he lied to be praised ? Are his lies are about something which makes him a hero or an act of heroism ? Maybe your child wanted your attention , maybe , he doesn't wants to frustrates you when he observes you wanted him to be the Best .

That's just my thoughts and means no offense :)

Because he says the oddest things. and he told me he had a dream and i thought it was funny and told my friend. she mentioned too him and he went i don't have dreams. he lies about things that wouldn't get him in trouble if he just told the truth anyways. i don't know how long its being going on but i noticed it a few months ago. I'm hoping its just a stage but when half the time i don't know if he has lied to me so god knows.

I don't think lying is part of the stages of development of a child . It's strange though since most children lied because of fear of punishments or wanted praises..

Oh it is probably just a phase but continue with the punishments just to teach that there are consequences for actions....plus it might shorten the life of the 'phase'.

It is baffling because he is a lovely boy. he likes helping me and he is polite. he is doing well at school and I'm really patient with him, so he has no fear I'll shout at him because that's not me. that's why i sometimes probably don't even know he has lied. i have to catch him out or check up on him to actually find out. I'm crossing my fingers its just a stage. maybe he has a vivid imagination and he's just being creative. i just don't like lying of any sort.
