WTF is this site fake (by hunter73)

well in my case it wasnt a scammer for money just a fake person talkin to alot of people. usually, in my line of work, i find these people are ur classic pedifiles or stalkers/pervs. wha was tricky is alot of things he did say checked out in my research. however, the things that didnt make sense were too big to ignore. and whats even funnier are the women on here that were trying to have me banned for calling him out. til the admin pretty much said since others came forward and it proved to be true they couldnt ban me for it. even the community gets their feathers ruffled. kinda strange.

Folks, it's basic common sense.

If we allowed anyone to come on to the Forums and accuse any other user of being a scammer, then things would get out of hand pretty quickly, with false accusations running rampant and character assassinations becoming the norm. That is why it is not allowed. The "Scammers Named & Shamed" is for more serious cases that we have confirmed on our end, and serves as a deterrent for similar cases. However, most scammers from third-world countries don't care about being named and shamed because they never use their real names, and rarely use their real pictures.

So if you suspect someone is a scammer, do the following in this order:

1) Give them Negative Karma if they sent you a message.
2) Report them via their profile.
3) Dump them so that you do not see or hear from them ever again.

However, do not come to the Forums and post their username, or you risk getting temp-banned from the Forums. Even worse, if your accusation proves false, then you risk getting permanently banned from the site. So it's not worth the risk.

The Negative Karma will help alert others to be suspicious of that user until we can take action. But we don't take action just because a user has been reported, we need to investigate them first to make sure we don't ban an innocent user, and all of that takes time since we are only two people running the entire site.

We already give you the tools to protect yourselves in the meantime. If you want to minimize your contact with scammers, then simply set your Contact Restrictions to "With Verified Pic" and "With Verified Phone". That will keep more than 99% of scammers from being able to contact you. I don't know of any other site that offers those features, yet every single dating site has scammers, so we actually do try to help you avoid them.

@Andres: i hate to disagree cuz it is ur site, but the karma system doesnt work. 1. people give bad karma for silly reasons all the time. 2. u cant give bad karma if ur not verified last i checked. 3. just becaue someone has bad karma doesnt mean theyre scammers for the same reason stated in #1. we arent dumb people, we get the logic behind ur "common sense" theory but we feel like we're the ones being punished when there's so people out there taking advantage of the fact that u are understaffed and the site is still not bullet proof and probably never will be. these people are slick and u have to admit that even ur research doesnt get them all.

I think that hardly qualifies as evidence that the Karma System "doesnt work", because I can assure you that it does, in fact, work very well. Is it perfect? Of course not, but a person with a Karma Score of 30, for example, is most definitely not a scammer. Furthermore, I can guarantee you that a person with a Karma Score of 30 is significantly friendlier than a person with a Karma Score of -7. However, what I cannot guarantee you, for example, is that a person with a negative Karma Score is necessarily a scammer, or that a person with a neutral or slightly positive Karma Score is actually friendly. The point of the Karma System is not to take it as gospel, but rather to use it as a guide and as yet another tool to help you construct a more accurate picture of who a user really is. The reason only verified users are allowed to use the Karma System is precisely so that is not abused by people with multiple accounts and so that it does a more accurate job of depicting a user. Yes, some people give Karma for silly reasons, but the Karma Score is an aggregate score of all the Karma received, so it evens out the silly karma on both ends. If you're still not convinced, then go to the Search page and hit the "Top Karma" button and talk to any user in those first few pages. I'll bet you they are a lot friendlier than the average user on the site and in the real world.

we arent dumb people, we get the logic behind ur "common sense" theory but we feel like we're the ones being punished when there's so people out there taking advantage of the fact that u are understaffed and the site is still not bullet proof and probably never will be. these people are slick and u have to admit that even ur research doesnt get them all.
I never said you were dumb and I'm glad to hear you understand the logic behind why no one is allowed to post negatively about other users. You are correct that we are completely understaffed, but there is nothing we can do about that until our revenues increase dramatically, and they are very far from being anywhere near the level that would permit us to hire staff. People wanted free, and we gave them free, but that "free" also limits what we can do. Hiring staff, for example, requires money, which is the opposite of free. We've launched an optional Premium version and Virtual Gifts to help increase our revenues to allow us to do more, but very few people have actually taken advantage of those new features, so our hands are still very much tied and there's not much we can do about that since we aren't going to force people to pay to use the site. So it is you guys who will define how far we can take the site, since we are never going to force you to do anything you don't want to do. You are also right that we don't catch all the scammers, but that is precisely why we specifically mention on every page where you receive a message to report any users asking for money. At the end of the day, we cannot keep you from sending them money, we can only advise against it.

Folks, I'm not kidding when I say that every single dating site on the planet is plagued with scammers. In other words, no site is "bullet-proof". However, most of the time you won't even know it because the sites either try to sweep the issue under the rug, or they don't even have a Forum where it can be openly discussed (let alone with the site's owner). We try to do things differently here at Dating.mobi by first acknowledging that it is a real problem and then by giving you guys several tools to minimize their impact. However, we won't allow the scammers to impact the civility of the Forums and allow everyone to start accusing each other because then we all lose.

Hope that makes more sense. As always, I'm open to suggestions on how to further minimize this issue.

I dont like the change myself but we can only hide ourselves so much from the real world. We also have to learn to apply the knowledge we do have along with available features and a good dose of common sense.
There ya go! A little knowledge, available features and common sense, and the scammers won't be a problem!
