P*ssant know-it-alls (by JLaDawn)
Ahhh, I read the poem first and went back to your other thread, but what actually was going on? I just read the posts and it seems that you were fighting the courts in order to care for your elderly father, right?
Did everything turn out ok with this? I ran into a situation towards the end of last year with something similar with my mother. It's harder in America I guess because of individual rights vs quality of life. For instance, where I work, the seniors there live independently. However, there are a few of them who are becoming more physically or mentally fragile. They should start transitioning to maybe assisted living, but refuse. And, as long as they can find ways of maintaining their quality of life, no one can push them into transitioning. We've even had children of the elderly person try to help their parents and had rights of the courts, but that elderly person would argue that all their children wants is money. It becomes complicated as to whether the children are trying to take advantage of their parents. In other cases, the elderly parents trust their children to make decisions and care for them, but the children are met with outside problems because of the taking advantage aspect. None of these officials seek to protect the rights of seniors or the elderly until it's gotten bad and money is involved. Otherwise, the elderly aren't listened to. They're ignored. As for the elderly not living at home, I believe there's lots of people who would care for their parents in old age in America but the way of life is not suitable for it. The focus on independence sabatoges this financially as well as socially.
It has been a nighhtmare caring for Dad...not because of the physical caring for, but the financial side of becoming his guardian with so much opposition. Taking care of his bussiness while meeting his physical needs and insuring that I protect his assests so that he can be cared for at home from unscrupulous relatives has been quite a juggling act. But caring for Dad in his own home is of the utmost importance to me....NOT safekeeping everything to make sure his kids get it when he dies!
And it has been months long battle....Dad coded in march, but so far I have been able to liquidate some of his assests and purchase a wheelchair accessible van...remodel his bathroom and widen all the doors and am taking applications to hire fulltime live-in caretaker as well as a part-time relief caretaker....
Yes, and a lot of props to you for that too. I know the opposition I'll be up against eventually but Im going to be clawing too lol It does take juggling and fighting but it's worth it in the end. You go girl and great poem too :)
Thanks....there are times I want to throw my hands in the air and let em all crawl around in the gutter and fight each other, but protecting Dad, since he cant protect hisself is the right thing to do. I tell you what tho, I didn't realize how truly awful some families can be...I was raised by my mom and stepdad and have 6 younger siblings on moms side...I have sure learned to appreciate what a GREAT family we are. When someone is in need we give not TAKE! I have 3 younger siblings on dads side that i was not raised with and their momma, dads 2nd ex wife, and I truly wld have never believed family wld act like this till I was thrown in the middle! This is one of lifes lessons I wld rather have been left untaught....
wow.... I see.... Yes, this is what I notice happening sometimes. It is very sad. But, you're right. Not everyone can be that way. Someone has to care about his welfare. I remember this one senior passed away about 3 years ago now. She had three daughters, much like my sisters and me. You would not believe how they acted and she wasn't even cold in the earth. Fighting over a damn iron and what-nots the mother left behind. Good grief. We barely seen any of them visiting while she was alive. It's crazy how money and materials changes everything.

It is so very very sad! I do actually feel great sadness for the siblings on Dads side, especially the baby sis that just turned 20, honestly I just wanna whisk her away to the other side and show her the true meaning of family....
