I think its time strong fiscally consertive libertarians make real strides in american government. Instead of just presidential races they need to start at local and state spots in next two years then in four they may have real shot at winning presidency.

Ooooh! I got you, thanks! :) So you're saying that's a good approach for an Independent politician to win a presidency.... I dunno. I was Independent for a while and the party just isnt strong enough to endure a mudbath from the left and right. Independent party found itself giving its views in support to the left and right. Both.

I think they need to start now in smaller local elections and build their base that way instead of trying for the whole enchilada all the time.

That's true, but first Independent probably needs to come up with how it's going to draw issues from both sides into a single Independent platform which can stands against the two sides. Then Independent can build its own methods and ideas of how to take everything on. The main challenge Independent politicians have is delivering a separate agenda that is full of good working long standing Independent methods. At least this was the problem for me. Morally Independents are Republicans, economically they're democrats. If they are going to be a separate party then they need separate ideas.

You can also have the flip with independets some are economic like republican while socially liberal. On most social issues Thomas Jefferson said it best "If it doesn't pick my pocket or break my leg, what concern is it to me.
