Dating.mobi hits 100,000 users! Refer friends, Earn Cupid Credits & Get more Roses! (by Andres)
@Andres: i think we should leave the roses as they are. But you are right that diversity makes other things more interesting. But new users might not yet understand how much more work go's into a rose until later. A gift is nice, but a rose is romantic. (to me anyways) i think its great your coming up with new gift ideas. But i would leave the roses as they are or (to make them more special) reduce it to 1 Rose per month. Im very glad that you are keeping in touch with users though. Thats another way your better then everyone else. thanks dating.mobi :D
I was up last night giving all of this a lot of thought and here's what I'm thinking:
We would leave the Roses as they are now. You are right that they are both special and romantic, so changing anything about them (such as allowing people to earn more than 2 a month) could alter their significance and therefore their usefulness. I kind of like how even with the other gifts, the Roses are the one thing you will not be able to earn or buy, so whether you are "rich" or "poor" in terms of Cupid Credits, everyone is on the same playing field when it comes to Roses.
So that begs the question, what do we do about the eventual Virtual Gifts we will be introducing soon? Well, I want to take advantage of their own uniqueness to encourage positive actions on the site, so last night I came up with an "Achievements" feature that would allow users to earn Cupid Credits like they already do when they refer new users.
There would be One-Time Achievements and Ongoing achievements that would earn you Cupid Credits.
For example, here's a few I came up with last night:
Ongoing Achievements
One-Time Achievements:
The One-Time Achievements would encourage new users to play around with and explore the site and all its features, whereas the Ongoing Achievements would reward positive actions such as being more active on the site by logging-in every day, helping the community verify new pics, being nice to other users so that you receive Positive Karma, and helping the site grow by referring new users.
But at the same time, you would also be penalized for negative actions that we would want to discourage. For example, if you did not log on to the site for an entire month, you would lose ALL your Cupid Credits earned. This would encourage users to check their account at least once a month, where they might discover a new message, wink, or rose that leads to a new relationship. Another example would be losing credits if you hit the severely negative Karma threshold.
Also note that we would be careful about what we actually rewarded, because we would not want to reward users every time they send a message or post in the Forums because that would encourage Spam.
So I'm thinking the Achievements -- just like in a video game -- can make the experience on the site more rewarding, more addictive, more fun, and actually lead to "tangible" benefits such as giving you access to the Virtual Gifts you can give to others to impress and get the attention of someone you are interested in.
There's a lot we could do with such an Achievements feature, we could even have an "Achievements Leaderboard" to rank our users based on how many Achievements they have unlocked and earned, and give them more exposure on the site while adding a competitive element to the site to further encourage more positive actions by the overall community. We could also allow users to "unlock" better Virtual Gifts as users unlock more and more Achievements, and we could even have hidden "Easter Egg" Achievements to surprise you with Cupid Credits when you least expect it and keep the site fun and spontaneous.
Again, there's a lot we could do with this, but the basic idea is to always encourage positive actions to make the overall experience here more enjoyable, while trying to make the site more fun.
I know this is a long-winded post, but if you've made it this far, please let me know what you think about this idea! Thanks!

- Referring a friend
- Correctly Verifying a Pic

- Sending your first Wink
- Sending your first Rose

I think it is wonderful that u are trying to make the site the best u can and all ur ideas in ur 'windy' post sound good to me. I can't wait to see what u come up with. On a completely diff note...may we have a forum link on all the pages? like home and search is? It wld make using the site easier for me and was wondering what everyone else thought?
But by adding all of this isent it making it more like a game and less like a dateing sight? I think everything your doing is cool but i dont think making it like a video game is cool because then you take away from actually getting to know people just so you can get points and be "better" then everyone els when in the long run all your doing is nothing.
This is a tricky one because not everyone uses the Forums, so it would probably be unfair to add clutter to those users. Plus, others might prefer a different link be added there (e.g. for the "Ratings") depending on what feature they used most, and it would be difficult to get everyone to agree on one.
That said, let me think about this and see what I can do. Maybe I could add a customizable short-cut link that would allow each user to link to whatever page they wanted (like the "Forums" in your case). I'll add it to the list of ideas.
I only used video games as an example of how Achievements can make something more fun and rewarding, but in this case, being a Dating site, it would encourage positive actions, which would increase the dating pool (by rewarding the referral of friends), result in more active users (by rewarding logging-in everyday), make dating safer (by rewarding the verification of pics), make dating more respectful (by rewarding Positive Karma), etc.
Any other feedback on this Achievements feature? Do you guys think it's worth a shot?

I have only sent 1 rose to a person i think there special and im only gonna send em to a person who i think is special
I think this idea keeps getting better. I would only caution not to make it more rewarding by talking to more people. Cause the best relationships happen between 2 people.
