ELI5: Why do black and white photos look better compared to color during the 70s/80s?
I have a bunch of photos from the late 1970s and early to mid 80s, in every b&w photo I can see, the quality is better and there tends to be more detail, reflections in the eyes for example.
Compared to the b&w photos, the color ones seem less detailed and the colors look a bit muted. The age of the photo is much more apparent compared to b&w, which could've been taken fairly recently. (clothes notwithstanding)
What's the reasoning for b&w looking much, much better? Even in the images that were taken in a professional photoshoot, the b&w ones seem much crisper.
