ELI5: When your lips crack due to dehydration and then heal, does your lip surface get wider?

I know this is a really dumb question but I get lip cracks all the time because I drink about 4 litres of water a day and if I drink less (like 2L), I get this big vertical crack on my lower lip.
Since this crack breaks the skin on my lip and when it heals, the two sides of that crack don't connect again it means a layer of skin forms in the crack to close it. Does that mean every time I get those cracks the surface area of my lip gets wider?
