So my gas got turned on yesterday for my heat. Its done fine till my son turned it up to high a few mins ago, the house immediately filled with smoke and a god awful smell. What do I do? All I know to do is turn the heater off for now...gonna freeze, but I'm afraid my house is gonna blow up :(

Prolly just crud on ur burners burning off....did u let it run a bit to see if it cleared up?

@WalkSoftly1: Well it ran last night with no problems and on and off today with no problems, but as soon as it got turned up high...like to 80 the house started smelling. I turned it off...waited a lil bit and turned it back on and got the same results

@Briteeyes: sounds like your heat exchanger is done ! If you call your gas provider and tell them what happened they will send a guy to check it out but you must lie a bit and say you could smell gas that way they will make you a priority

So for half a second I thought that read hater problems. lmao.

@tbye: I probably do have a gas leak cuz when I use my stove you can smell gas all the way outside. At first they said it was cuz my pilot light blew out, but it still smells so idk

Mine was cracked and wld ignite and cause the heater closet door to blow open......$1500 later, the prob was fixed lol....

Call them again and tell them about the smoke and say it also smells slightly like gas. They will send a guy immediately for free and he will diagnose the problem.
