The story of Chris Columbus' rise to fame in USA is actually a weird one. When he was alive it was actually already common knowledge that the earth was round. He was actually an imbecile who was bad at math and thought the world was pear shaped. The reason the Spanish king and queen decided to fund him was to gain an edge in spice trade. And as we know by now he made it to the Caribbean were he was welcomed and treated with respect. He returned the favor by returning with an army to try and steal the gold. The problem was is that the natives didn't have any which resulted in their mass slaughter. And that's pretty much all he did he died believing he made it to India. Eventually the writer of sleepy hollow and other tall tales decided to write the first biography of Chris Columbus in America and decided to embellish it to make more money. And with the Italian Americans being discriminated against they decided to promote the story to with favor with Americans.

The credit for the discovery of America must go to India . If it was not for the india and European people's quest for the alternative sea route for the spice trade with india none of this would have happened .
Secondly , Europeans didn't discover America ! It was "discovered" by native Americans like Mayans etc. Europeans just swindled and misappropriated their lands and belongings . Causing genocide of the natives and killing millions of people . That is NOT a discovery in my book .

Ha, your both wrong. To an extent, anyway.
Columbus wasn't the first European to discover America. That accomplishment goes to Lief Eriksson (Eric the red)

Kinda hard for Columbus to discover America when we already had people here, Indians, etc. That just always bothered me, he was looking for India, but was 8,000 miles off.
