My boyfriend (m35) doesn't want me (f30) to drink

My boyfriend (m35) and I (f30) have been talking/dating for a little while now. Prior to meeting him I'd go out every other week or so with a friend of mine. We would eat dinner and go to a local bar.
Since talking to him I have spent every weekend with him. Anytime I try to make plans with my friend without talking to him first to ensure that we don't already have plans, he gets upset. He would say that "your partner should come before family and or friends". He does not like me going out and drinking.
He used to work in law enforcement and had alcoholics in his family. He does not like to smell alcohol or be around alcohol and it makes him uncomfortable. I told him that we would compromise and I'd only go out once or twice a month. Since that is basically what I was doing prior to him. I also cannot have a drink when/if he and I would go out to dinner. I also have to tell him whenever I do have a drink as to not break the promise that I set in place.
It's to the point now where I asked him last night if I could have a drink. He commented and said "if you want. I'd prefer if you didn't but I'm going to hold up to our agreement, and you've only had one drink this month". I'm on the fence about this because while I do enjoy having a drink with dinner and not getting super drunk I do not like the fact that I have to tell him when I do drink.
Is there anyway to get past this point where I can drink without having him interrogate me all the time?
TL;DR My boyfriend doesn't like me drinking. I have to let him know when I do per my suggestion of drinking once or twice a month
