So, I've decided to break things off with him, but it didn't go as expected. At first, he seemed okay with it when we broke things off over the phone...then hours later, he calls me again in tears telling me that he feels suicidal because I left him. I begged him not to do anything stupid, and come to find out, it was all a ploy to guilt me into still being in contact with him.
So, you guys were right: I had to run out of that relationship because one: we didn't really know each other well (like our sense of humor, admittedly) because we rushed into things too fast; two: given his poor track record of relationships, I didn't see this one surviving at all. His ring is being mailed back as we speak. Thank you all for helping me see the warning signs clearly.
TL;DR: I broke up with him. He starts threatening self-harm, but it ended up being all talk. It's over for good.
