@truehrt4u: My Mom used to make coffee cakes for Christmas. And although through out the whole year she made her own bread from scratch, somehow it always tasted different during the holidays & her apple pies were worth waiting for dessert to be served.
@truehrt4u: Ooohh yes.. Yesterday I roasted cashews & almonds with cinnamon... The memories -:) Back to 1964. Wish for homemade bread now, and homemade pieogies with fried onions & sour cream.... * Now you did girl friend, im going shopping later * Hhhaaa!
Grandma made me some traditional cake with some wine(localy made) pretty sweet.lol
@Paschal: Wow.. Wine in the cake ? Instead of water, egg, cow or goats milk ? PLEASE inbox me, when you can... So I can learn this... Or send some of your realitives... * Cooking exchange program * hee hee :-)
@TenFour: those dishes always taste better during the holiday guess its because everyone is gathered together around the table sharing memories
My grandmas roll recipe, we make them every holiday (the best part is making the leftover dough into pepperoni rolls!). We also have a tradition my grandpa started called Christmas Pickles. We make them around Halloween and they sit in the fridge til Christmas (if they can last that long!). Mom almost always did ham when I was growing up. The smell of ham, pumpkin pies, bread baking and different veggies.... gosh the holidays always bring back fond memories for me.
