IP addresses are very easy to fake/spoof using anonymous proxies, so it wouldn't make a very big difference. What's a lot more difficult to fake repeatedly is a mobile phone number in a different country, and that's why the new requirement that all users verify their phone number is already making a huge difference with scammers and fake profiles.

We didn't "lose" any members because we didn't ban or delete accounts with unverified phone numbers, we simply switched their accounts to READ-ONLY mode until they verify their phone numbers. That's why you should have noticed an immediate and significant reduction in messages from scammers and fake profiles after the phone verification requirement went into effect.
