Dating.mobi Pet Peeve Confessional (by Andres)

Hi Folks,

I'm starting this new weekly series called the "Dating.mobi Pet Peeve Confessional" to continuously improve the site for you guys.

Basically, every week, I will start a new thread asking you guys to list your biggest pet peeve on the site. You know, the little (or big!) things you find annoying on the site that you would like fixed, changed, or removed. It can be things as simple as the location of a link on a certain page, to something as big as how an entire feature functions.

In return, I promise to fix at least 1 pet peeve every week.

I'm doing this because sometimes we just learn to "live with" pet peeves, but I don't want you guys to have to live with anything on the site that doesn't make your experience absolutely awesome, so this is a chance to get rid of those things that frustrate your experience here (note: your pet peeve cannot be another user!).

This isn't the place to request new features, as we already have an entire section for that. This is about giving you guys the opportunity to openly report issues with the site, while giving me a chance to hear directly from you guys and continuously improve the site on a weekly basis.

If you already see a pet peeve listed in the thread, make sure you also post about it so that I see which pet peeves are the most annoying and should be fixed first.

So what are you waiting for? Confess your biggest pet peeve on the site now!

When you send a message when you go back you should be sent to the last online now page you viewed if you understand what i am saying

Honestly my biggest pet peeve is all these guys messaging me on here looking for sex and thats not what im looking for..... Is there any way that you could like set it up to where the people are matched up by what they are looking for??? And set some sort of age range option too because i really dont like it when some guy thats older than my dad hits on me

@Andres: I personally do not like the way when I delete a message I "sent" to someone that it takes me back to my Inbox & I have to go back to the "messages sent" icon instead of staying in the same area where I can delete more messages. I hope I explained it right.

one pet peve ive developed is:
when im creating a post, when you write a certain length and say you accidently/purposely exit the box, it deletes the tail end if you go back in box to write more. it happens every time if the post is past a certain length. thats very frusting when i hit the 'line down' key on my phone. that takes you out of the comment box so you have to go back in it to continue just to find you have to re write some of what you had already written.

Hi Andres, great idea and thanks a lot I have two pet peeves lol Well.... Could you just extend the length of time to get our messages typed out just a bit. My phone doesnt do spell checks and proofing. By the time Ive typed out my message and done this, Im logged out for being idle too long. I think editing time is fine but getting the message typed is still not long enough. The other is chat navigation. Not really chat itself because I know you're still working on all of that. But can the navigation be changed a little?

When you recieve multiple messages at once and wish to reply to them there really is not a streamlined way to get back to ur inbox after you reply to the first message. In other words say I get 3 messages, I read the first one and reply, then I have to go back to inbox to get to the second, read and reply then back to inbox for the third. Perhaps we cld go straight back to unread after replying(if there are additional messages to read)? Also, this has caused me to miss that I have messages before becuz when you get the "you've got mail" bar it disappears when you read the first message, irregardless of other unread messages. Hope I made sense :^)

Awesome feedback so far, folks, thanks!

When you send a message when you go back you should be sent to the last online now page you viewed if you understand what i am saying
I'm not sure I understand what you mean, could you please be more specific and use an example?

You're already matched based on what you are "looking for", and you can use your Contact Restrictions to limit who may contact you based on several criteria including age.

This is a perfect example of the kind of Pet Peeves I'm talking about! This is also the First Pet Peeve fixed! Now, when you delete a Sent message, you are taken back to the Sent folder instead of the Inbox.

one pet peve ive developed is:

When you are typing a post, the site does not interact with your browser (only when you submit it), so if text is getting cut off simply from deselecting the comment box (without you actually loading a new page), then it's your phone's browser doing it, not the site. I'm afraid there's not much I can do about how your phone behaves when it's not interacting with the site. But your issue does sound strange, as I've never heard of a browser doing that, and I can definitely see how it can be very frustrating!

Do you have a rough estimate of how long it takes for you to be logged out while typing a message? Because your sessions last 24 minutes before the site considers you "logged out", which should be more than enough time to write a post (even a long one). But if you sense it's doing it in less than 24 minutes, then something else is going on and I'll need to investigate it. Please let me know.

The other is chat navigation. Not really chat itself because I know you're still working on all of that. But can the navigation be changed a little?
Sure, how so?

When you recieve multiple messages at once and wish to reply to them there really is not a streamlined way to get back to ur inbox after you reply to the first message. In other words say I get 3 messages, I read the first one and reply, then I have to go back to inbox to get to the second, read and reply then back to inbox for the third. Perhaps we cld go straight back to unread after replying(if there are additional messages to read)?
Second Pet Peeve Fixed! Now, after you take any action on a message, not only are you taken back to the Inbox, but you are taken back to the Inbox type where you first opened the message (Unread, Unreplied, All).

Also, this has caused me to miss that I have messages before becuz when you get the "you've got mail" bar it disappears when you read the first message, irregardless of other unread messages. Hope I made sense :^)
This one is trickier. Say you haven't logged-in in a while, and you log in one day and have 50 unread messages. You would have to open every single one of those 50 messages before the "You've got mail" status bar disappeared, which might take you a few days to sift through, all the while you kept getting a "You've got mail" status alert, which would be confusing since you didn't get any new mail since you last checked. In other words, the purpose of the "You've got mail" status is not to alert you of unread mail, but to alert you of new mail since you last checked your Inbox. Does that make sense?

Keep the Pet Peeves coming, folks! :)

What i mean is if you are on online now and you spend a message to a person you see under online now when you back space you should be able to go back to the online now instead of being on that persons pages
